A Bayside Story: Lochiel Avenue and Surrounds, Mount Martha

Local Community

A suburb where the rustic ocean bushland meets the beach, Mount Martha offers a serene retreat for those wanting to escape the busy lifestyle of its surrounding Bayside neighbours. Not far from our own Bay Rd office, C&G takes a walk around the corner to buzzing Lochiel Avenue and its surrounding streets to uncover Mount Martha’s hidden gems.

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and if you’re lucky enough to indulge in the feast at Milkbar & Co., we’re sure you’ll agree! Opening early for the morning birds, this milkbar/café offers a delectable array of breakfast goodies and lunchtime treats.

Boasting rave reviews on Urbanspoon, Via Battisi is said to be “a little piece of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula”. Serving Proud Mary Coffee, Via Battisi combine their love of coffee with excellent Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and friendly customer service.

Taking a stroll down Lochiel Avenue will find you at local art gallery, Original Oz. True to their motto, “The Best in Australian Art”, the gallery showcases a wide variety of artists and styles, sure to deliver something to spark your imagination. If you’d like to try your hand, the Mount Martha Community Learning Centre have courses to inspire your creative spirit, as well as courses for the practical-minded, including classes on improving business and computer skills to honing languages.

While not exactly close to Lochiel Avenue (we did say surrounds!), a short car trip is worth the adventure you’ll find at The Briars. This iconic 1800s rural homestead enjoys a beautiful setting, with plenty of walks allowing you to enjoy the local vista – and surprising history featuring Napoleon!

After all that physical exertion, it’s time to return to the calming seaside. Visit Volpino Pizzeria and Winebar for authentic Italian wood-fired pizza paired with an eclectic selection of wines. Likewise, Mr. Curtis prides itself on its wine list, and its stunning view of the bay from its balcony setting.
