National Gallery of Victoria

ABC Radio’s National Broadcaster Amanda Smith will lead the NGV’s Women in Leadership forum on International Women’s Day. Learn how a diverse group of professionals facilitate conversations about gender in a way that speeds up change, challenges established mindsets and take advantage of the fact that equality is on the national agenda. Featuring invaluable insights from Talitha Cummins (journalist), Professor Jane den Hollander (Vice-Chancellor and President, Deakin University), Helen Conway (Deputy Chair, Aon Superannuation Pty Ltd, Director, ReachOut Australia, and Director, Per Capita Australia Limited) and Joanna Murray-Smith (writer). With a focus on local women from a range of backgrounds, the Lightning Talks are all about joining in the global movement toward gender parity. True to General Assembly’s focus on technology, culture, social media, and politics, speakers include Kirsteene Phelan (Rome2rio), Sarah Moran (Girl Geek Academy), Suzanne Tonks (Oliver & York Public Affairs), Angie Greene (Stand Up Events), Dhakshy Sooriyakumaran (YLab) and Nithya Gopu Solomon (VicHealth). The event is set to wrap up with some great networking opportunities and a pledge to #BeBoldForChange in 2017.

Head to Glen Eira Town Hall to enjoy a free lunch from the City of Glen Eira and hear from Mariam Issa, a local human rights activist and writer. Mariam’s inspiring story will detail her journey as a Somalian refugee, and shed light on the challenges that immigrants face as they seek to build their lives in a new place. Learn more here.

City of Port Phillip’s International Women’s Day

St Kilda Town Hall

Feminist writer, broadcaster and public speaker Clementine Ford will feature alongside Haleh Homaei, Port Phillip Housing Association’s CEO and Georgie Stone – an Elwood College Student, Trans Advocate and LGBTI Person of the Year. Kicking off at 6.30pm at St Kilda Town Hall, the event’s guest panel will discuss way that the community can work together toward gender parity and a better world for everyone.
