C&G’s Favourite Places to Cool Off Bayside

Local Community

Summer in Melbourne is great – balmy nights and sun-drenched days are what January is all about. But sometimes, it all gets too much. There’s nothing better than plunging into cool waters on a boiling hot day, so today C&G share our favourite places to cool off on the south side.

Prahran Aquatic Centre

The perfect place for relaxers and serious lap swimmers alike, Prahran Aquatic Centre offers a 50m outdoor pool and plenty of relaxation areas. Head down on Sundays and enjoy chilled beats spinning all day by resident DJ Mike Gurrieri from Jan 21-Feb 11.

Brighton Baths

One of the few remaining sea baths in Australia, Brighton Baths offer a unique take on summer fitness. Swim laps in protected open waters, and experience the benefits of fresh salt water swimming. Relax in the steam room and soak up incredible bay views and invigorating sea air.

St Kilda Sea Baths

Relax and unwind on the shores of St Kilda beach, swim laps in the warm salt water 25m pool, or relax in the heated bubble spa overlooking the water. With Republica and Captain Baxter on the same complex, you’ll certainly not struggle to make a day of it.

Bayside Beaches

Bayside is blessed with one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country, so make the most of the ocean and take a dip at your local beach. Remember to swim between flags where they’re in operation, and plan your visit around lifeguard patrol shifts for maximum safety.

If you find you’re loving being in the water, Bayside has plenty of open water swimming events throughout the summer months. South Melbourne’s Port to Park, the Great Australia Day Swim and the Brighton Bathing Box Classic are some of the state’s most popular.

Wherever you choose to unwind and cool down this summer, Chisholm & Gamon reminds everyone to practice sun safety. Slap on a high SPF sunscreen regularly, and remember to reapply after swimming. Keep an eye on the UV index ratings, too, as cloudy days can be deceptively dangerous.
