C&G’s Guide to Commemorating ANZAC Day 2018

Anzac Day is a time for remembering those who have made the greatest of sacrifices. This year’s commemorations will take place on Wednesday 25th April – today C&G share some events of interest in the local area.

Melbourne Legacy’s Commemoration for Students on April 20

Ahead of the official ANZAC celebrations on April 25, a commemoration for students will be held on Friday 20 April. Joined by Defence Force Cadets and a school band & choir, students are encouraged to remember deceased relatives and continue the ANZAC spirit in honor of those who served our country. The service will also include an RAAF fly-over.

Time: 10.30am-noon, Friday 20 April

ANZAC Day Dawn Service Brighton

Featuring music from Brighton Secondary School Choir, Brighton’s Dawn Service will commence from 6am at the Esplanade, preceded by a march down Jetty Road at 5.50am. A ‘gunfire’ breakfast will follow the service in exchange for a gold coin donation.

Time: March at 5.50am, service 6am.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service Hampton

Hampton RSL will also hold a dawn service, with breakfast available afterwards for a gold coin donation. At 2pm, a game of Two-Up will commence, to celebrate the local community.

Time: 5.30am for a 6am start

ANZAC Day at the Shrine of Remembrance

At 6am at the Shrine of Remembrance on St Kilda Road, the community will gather to commemorate the efforts of our defence force in World War I. At 9am, the ANZAC March will commence, this year lead for the first time by men and women who have served in recent conflicts.

ANZAC Eve & ANZAC Day Football

Richmond face Melbourne in the annual ANZAC Eve clash at the MCG, while Collingwood and Essendon meet once again for another remembrance game on ANZAC Day itself. Join fellow football fans, veterans, families and supporters in remembering those who fought for our country.

Getting Around on ANZAC Day

Veterans and War Widows can travel for free on Victoria’s public transport network on 24, 25 and 26 April, to help them attend ANZAC Day commemoration activities, and free travel is now extended to Australian Defence Force members, Scouts and Guides and school students on April 25 only.
