C&G’s Guide to Dine With Heart Month

Local Community

Back for a fourth successive year, the Sacred Heart Mission’s Dine With Heart Month returns this May to raise funds for the charity meal program. In today’s blog, C&G share how you can get involved, and where to buy your meals that give back this May.

Guaranteeing fabulous food and memorable experiences throughout the month of May, Dine With Heart Month brings restaurants, bars and cafés together to raise money for Melbourne’s less fortunate. Experiencing homelessness, social isolation and living a disadvantaged daily life is a constant struggle that many Australians know all too well. The Sacred Heart Mission is determined to put an end to these issues.

Chisholm & Gamon have supported Dine With Heart Month since its inception four years ago, and have been long standing sponsors of the Sacred Heart Mission. We encourage you to get involved and dine out across the St Kilda area this May, and give back to those in need. Whether you attend a fundraiser, add a donation to your bill or eat and drink at participating venues throughout the campaign, every little makes a difference.

Restaurants across Melbourne have raised a total of $80,000 for the Mission’s Meals Program, which equates to 20,000 meals for people in need. A meal costs the charity $4, so whatever you can afford really helps someone out there who needs a helping hand. Recent census data revealed an 11% rise in Victorian homelessness, so despite the collective efforts of the Mission and other charities, we still have a long way to go. When you consider that the cost of your morning coffee could be a meal provided to someone living below the line, it really puts things in perspective.

You can get involved in Dine With Heart Month by attending the opening night gala fundraising dinner held on the stage of the iconic Palais Theatre in St Kilda, on Tuesday 1 May 2018, featuring courses prepared by an ensemble of Melbourne’s top chefs. Alternatively, joining a participating venue for food or drinks throughout the month also goes a long way in helping those in need. With many venues still in the process of signing up, there are plenty of locations yet to be announced. Those confirmed, though, include Captain Baxter, Fitzrovia, Grill’d Windsor, St Kilda Burger Bar, St Ali and Wine 1160. Be sure to check back throughout April to see if your favourite spot has signed up.

You can also get involved at your school, workplace or even at home. The website is packed with tips on how to make your meals count this May.
