Local Community

This year, St Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday, meaning the Irish-themed parties will be bigger than ever! C&G has compiled a guide to the best ways to celebrate St Patrick’s Day 2017 in Melbourne.

Head to the pub

In true Irish style, make a beeline for the pub this Friday – the earlier, the better! With Irish pubs scattered across Bayside, you’re never far from your nearest pint of Guinness! Southbank’s PJ O’Brien’s and Windsor’s Windsor Alehouse, South Melbourne’s Limerick Arms and South Yarra’s Bridie O’Reilly’s are your top southside bets. Venture into the city and you’ll find The Irish Times Pub, The Last Jar and the Celtic Club. You won’t be short of clovers, leprechaun mascots and jolly good times this St Paddy’s Day! Check each venue’s events and offers – in true Irish style, many kick off the celebrations before breakfast.

The Melbourne Irish Festival 2017

Hold out until Sunday 19 March and enjoy a full day of family-friendly St Paddy’s Day fun at the Melbourne Irish Festival. Held at North Fitzroy’s Edinburgh gardens, the festival will run from 12 noon to 5pm and feature plenty of feel-good Irish-themed activities. From Irish dancing on the main stage and music from Irish talent to traditional, tasty food and a celebration of the Irish culture prevalent in Australia today, the free festival is certainly worth a visit. Kids will be entertained with sports sessions, games, races, crafts and stunts – and there’s a chance to win a family trip to Ireland courtesy of Emerald Travel.
