C&G’s Guide to the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

Local Community

Dubbed a ‘must see’, the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show will hit Carlton Gardens and the Royal Exhibition Building from March 29 to April 2. Packed with expert tips and fresh blooms, there’s something for everyone. Here’s C&G’s top picks to help you plan your day:

You’d think it were the beginning of spring if you set eyes on the International Flower and Garden Show. Carlton Gardens and the Royal Exhibition Building will come alive from Wednesday through to Sunday as it fills the air with the scent of freshly cut grass and full blooming florals.

Garden Goals

The show is the epitome of garden goals. Whether you’re looking to give yours a winter spruce ready for next season or you’re simply a lover of all things outdoors, you’ll be inspired by everything from boutique gardens to the everyday achievable gardens. Melbourne’s local and international designers will fight for the title of Best in Show at the landscape design show gardens, which will be open to all in Carlton Gardens for the duration of the show.

Floral Installations

You’ll need your camera to document the beauty of the incredible flower installations within the Royal Exhibition Building. The hall will be transformed into a floral wonderland in bloom, as acclaimed florists, designers and artists come together to showcase their creations, all the while competing to take home the Gold Floral Design Award. The Great Hall of Flowers will be home over 1000 flowers, as well as the RMIT Floral Fashion exhibit and the Retail Flower Market where guests can buy blooms direct from the growers.

Gardens by Twilight

Can’t make the show during the day? This year’s show features Gardens by Twilight – your exclusive opportunity to see Carlton Gardens installations in another light while enjoying gourmet food and drink. All other show features will also be open, too, so you can pack in as much as possible during your night visit. Gardens by Twilight is exclusively open on Friday 31 March, so get in quick to avoid disappointment.

Art and Accessories

If you’re looking to snap up a few items to kick start your design project, a range of stunning artworks will be available for purchase during the event. The artists themselves will on stand-by to answer any questions, giving you a deeper insight into the creative process. A number of retail exhibitors will also set up shop, offering you the best in exotic plants, tools, accessories and other home and lifestyle selections. You can find the full list of exhibitors here.

Entertainment

Family friendly entertainment will be on offer for the entire 5 days of the show, with the main stage packed with live floral demonstrations, masterclasses, and tips and tricks from the experts. Find the full program here.
