C&G’s Guide to Virtual Storytime by Second Chance Animal Rescue

Local Community

Looking for something educational to entertain kids staying at home? Show them how adorable and exciting fur children can be! Second Chance Animal Rescue are bringing story time to you, by sharing weekly videos of volunteers reading picture books to kids at home. The videos can be found on the shelter’s Facebook page, and are proving to be a fun and educational source of entertainment for the little ones. This latest C&G blog explains further!

We’re all aware of the limitations on public gatherings and social distancing, which have required many services – animal shelters included – to review their practices and make necessary changes. Second Chance Animal Rescue have placed many of their animals into foster care, a welcomed role for staff and volunteers working remotely. Many Australians are in the same situation, finding more spare time that was previously devoted to travel commutes or getting ready for the day.

So how are these volunteers making use of their extra time? They will be posting their videos at 9:30am each Tuesday and Thursday, providing some early morning entertainment for kids who may be getting restless at home. This could be helpful for parents who are working remotely, and need something to keep the little ones occupied! If one book isn’t enough, you’ll find there are already a few videos uploaded.

What makes this virtual storytelling special? They all feature the four-legged residents of Second Chance Animal Rescue! Children will be able to enjoy a captivating story, as well as gush over the adorable puppy or kitten making an appearance. This is also a wonderful opportunity to educate kids on the important work animal shelters undertake, and perhaps spark a future interest in animal studies!
