Dine with Heart with the Sacred Heart Mission

Local Community

If you’re anything like most Melbournians, you’ll have allocated a pretty decent chunk of your food budget to enjoying the wealth of epicurean delights that this city has to offer. Now, the utterly decent folk at the Sacred Heart Mission have devised a way for you to experience great food while supporting the homeless. A gala dinner, where patrons are presented with a foodie extravaganza from nine of Melbourne’s top chefs, will take place on Tuesday, May 24 at the iconic Palais Theatre. C&G have sussed out the event for you – it’s a dinner date too good to miss!

The Cause

Every day, the Sacred Heart Mission’s Meal Program serves 400 much-needed meals to homeless and disadvantaged Melbournians. These meals are nutritious and most-often, the highlight of someone’s day. Every $4 raised will pay for one of these meals – which means your ticket, for $220, will feed 55 people! Read on to find out what a memorable experience that ticket will get you.

The Venue

The iconic Palais Theatre is a beautiful 89-year old building in the heart of St Kilda, and Australia’s number one concert venue. It’s also the host of this year’s Dine With Heart Gala Dinner.

The Food

The menu is set to be an unforgettable one. The chefs are as follows: Todd Moses (French Saloon), Chris Watson (Luxembourg). Jesse Gerner (Bomba), Tony Sheldon (European), Daniel Wilson (Huxtaburger), Emma D’Alessandro (Donovans), Scott Pickett (Estelle Bistro), Pierre Roelofs (Dessert Evenings) and the team at Bayleaf Catering! They’re teaming up to bring you a unique, three-course meal – the kind that you’ll be talking about for weeks afterward!

The Entertainment

Cam Smith is the presenter of the ‘Eat It’ program on 3RRR, and he’ll be your host for the evening. In addition, you can expect live music and some great auction prizes as well! It’s about atmosphere as much as the dining experience.

If you can’t make it to the Gala Dinner on May 24, don’t panic. May is Dine with Heart Month – there are over 60 participating venues across the City of Port Phillip (and the CBD) – running side events and even creating special, signature dishes especially. Some of these venues include Mr. Wolf, St. Ali, Madame Brussels, Babu Ji, Captain Baxter and Hawk & Hunter, just to name a few. To buy a ticket or to discover more, visit www.sacredheartmission.org
