Go Ape for the St Kilda Football and Netball Club!

Local Community

Chisholm and Gamon are ready to ‘go ape’ for the St Kilda Football and Netball club who are launching into season 2015 with a bang! Celebrating the end of summer with a proper knees-up, the sporting club has organised a fundraiser to kick off the gaming season. On Saturday 14th March punters are invited to the iconic Espy Hotel to see legendary Tex Perkins and The Apes take to the stage – all in the name of a good rocking time and a good rolling fundraiser. Comedian and MC, Matt Hardy will perform alongside other special guests.

Tex and the Apes are new to the local live music scene, featuring popular artists including Raul Sanchez from Magic Dirt on guitar along with Gus Agars of the Dark Horses and Pat Bourke. Playing from their self-titled album which the Tex describes as “primitive, filthy, fun” it promises to be a wild night! The famous singer describes this band and their music as “easily the best thing I have ever done, or ever will do”. If anyone can back up such a bold statement, it’s Mr Perkins. This rocking community event pairs awesome home grown musical talent with supporting health and fitness … all while farewelling the summer over a frothy or two overlooking the Esplanade. What’s not to love?

Not to be confused with the AFL team, the St Kilda City football club has been kicking goals since 1946. They only took on the the famous Black, White and Red jerseys in 1958 to signal their ongoing support of the Saints in the professional league. For more than half a century the St Kilda City football club has been attracting and nurturing local talent -  AFL players who have risen from their ranks include Billy Mildenhall, Craig Williams and Bruce Stuart to name but a few.

In 2013 the footy club joined forces with the local netball squad, which quickly grew in both player numbers and graded divisions. Interested in joining either team? Players are asked to participate in simple tryouts, so they can be placed into teams which best match their skills and fitness.

Whether you’re a budding amateur sportsperson or not, we encourage you to ‘go ape’ and attend this fun St Kilda Football and Netball Club fundraiser! Tickets are only $37.50 and proceeds are poured back directly back into this stellar community organisation. Purchase your tickets here
