Local Community

The ninth annual Heart of St Kilda Concert has been announced! The Sacred Heart Mission have arranged some great acts this year to help raise funds for locals in need, and with many more to be announced – its going to be an absolute dazzler when these acts rock the Palais Theatre on Tuesday September 6, 2016. C&G has the latest, so read on to find out more!

Hosting this huge night of entertainment will be St Kilda local Brian Nankervis, comedian and co-host of RocKwiz. Alongside Nankervis, Larry Ponting, Wal Bishop OAM and Neil Croker (Palais Theatre CEO) are the co-creators of this amazing event that supports the vital work done by the Sacred Heart Mission in our community. In fact, last year’s concert raised $79,000 for the Mission’s Meals Program, a service which provides around 160,000 meals every year from the dining hall in St Kilda.

Here’s the talent that’s been announced so far:

Russell Morris

An Australian legend, and no less, Russell Morris’ career kicked off in the 1960s with his hit song ‘The Real Thing.’ In 2008, he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and 2014, his album, Van Dieman’s Land, debuted at number four on the overall ARIA chart.

Kutcha Edwards

A strong vocalist and talented songwriter, Kutcha Edwards toured internationally fronting Koori rock banks Watbalimba and Blackfire before releasing his first solo work, Cooinda, in 2002. He describes his unique, soulful style as ‘Bidgee music’ – after the Murrumbidgee river in New South Wales.

Olympia

Olivia Bartley (Olympia) is a Melbourne artist, and undoubtedly an emerging talent to watch. Her debut album Self Talk (out through EMI) has received plenty of praise and heavy air play, and she recently toured nationally, playing sold-out shows across the country.

Shane Howard

An influential songwriter with a focus on collaboration in music, Howard’s work spans many years. Perhaps most well-known for his 1982 album Spirit of Place (recorded with his band Goanna), Howard is a legend in the Australian folk-rock genre.

The Umbilical Brothers

Chuck some comedy into the mix and you’re laughing! The Umbilical Brothers consist of multi-award winning duo Shane Dundas and David Collins. They’ll be taking the stage to turn everyday situations into comedy gold with their unique brand of humour.
