Melbourne Loves The Vision That Is Euro: Eurovision 2014

Local Community

‘Mamma Mia, here we go again!’ It’s that time of the year, a time when 5-piece boy bands dressed top-to-toe in white are de rigeur and less is certainly not more! That’s right, Eurovision Song Contest is back in its 58th consecutive year - and for the first time in its history Australia is getting on the glittery band wagon with Jessica Mauboy set to light up the stage. Such a grand event deserves a celebration, so Chisholm & Gamon have compiled a few Euro-tastic party ideas to ensure you celebrate this iconic spectacle in style!

Decorations:

  • Display the flag of this year’s host country, which is Denmark in 2014. Add silver and gold tinsel for that extra ‘Euro’ touch.
  • Find popular or traditional sayings in Danish - write these phrases onto banners and stick along walls. Select words like ‘welcome’ and ‘enjoy our party.’

Activities:

  • Guess the winner

Give all your guests a ballot sheet - whoever guesses the winner and runners-up correctly wins a Euro-tastic prize (the cheesier the better – maybe visit a deli small goods shop bayside for supplies!).

  • Eurovision Origins Quiz

Test your guests’ knowledge of the Eurovision Song Contest with a quiz. Perfect to play during the contest’s intervals.

Food and drink ideas:

  • Prepare meals traditional to the host country. In Denmark’s case, meat-balls, roast pork and crackling and poached cod with mustard sauce and all the IKEA-ready trimmings.
  • Create a special Eurovision fruit punch in bright neon pink and serve all your beverages in kitsch plastic glasses. Watch out for hyperactivity!

 Party favours:

Send your guests home with treats to commemorate the joyous occasion, such as:

  • Cakes and candies from the host country.
  • CD compilation of Eurovision winners.
