School’s Back, Bayside!

Local Community

The summer holidays are quickly coming to an end - and if you’ve got children in your life, you’re likely to be thinking about schools. Whether you’re looking for a primary school where your little one will start their educational career, or starting to consider high schools, there’s plenty of choices close by. Chisholm and Gamon is here to show you what’s about.

There’s plenty of choice for both public and private schools in the bayside area, depending on your family’s own wants and needs. The selection of schools highlighted below are a mere fraction of what's on offer.

Elwood Primary boasts a high level of community engagement at their school and has recently undergone a refurbishment of all the classrooms, which all feature electronic whiteboards. There’s a focus on the usual reading, writing and arithmetic, of course, but also performing arts, visual arts, PE, and Indonesian. Grades 3 and 4 are included in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden, where they learn about growing, cooking and enjoying fresh fruit and vegetables.

St Mary’s Catholic Primary in St Kilda East prides itself on engaging activity-based learning, which challenges and stimulates students’ learning. The school has a strong focus on numeracy and literacy, as well as religious education, information technology, health and PE, arts and Italian language and culture.

When it comes to secondary school, there are lots of factors that help to decide where your kids should go, including subjects offered and extra-curricular activities. Albert Park College encourages its students to reach their full potential both creatively and academically, and offers various leadership roles for students to take up while they are at the school. It’s also passionate about teaching their students to value the environment, preparing them to tackle environmental issues that threaten our planet.

St Michael’s Grammar teaches from kindergarten to Year Twelve and offers a very strong community for their students as all sections of the school are together on the one campus. One of the school’s strengths is its performing arts programme, but it also offers strong science and outdoor education courses, as well as engagement with the larger community. Preparation for VCE and “the real world” is a big focus at the school throughout the secondary years, with a strong work experience program and leadership roles from Year Nine onwards.
