The Five Habits To Kick For FebFast

Local Community

Given up on your New Years Resolutions already? Don’t worry – you’ve got another chance to make changes in your life. FebFast is a great opportunity not only to give up your vice for a month (or more) but also to do good in the process. Today Chisholm and Gamon look at the five habits to kick for FebFast (and how best to actually stick to them!)

If your New Years Resolutions have already fallen by the wayside (hey, you gave it a go!) and you’re feeling a little ashamed or embarrassed – don’t. Starting next month, FebFast may be just the kick of encouragement you’re looking for, plus it has the bonus of benefitting others too!

Initially begun as a campaign to encourage people to give up alcohol for a charitable cause, you can now choose from five habits to set aside for the month – alcohol, nicotine, sugar, junk food or the modern vice, social media. In doing so, you’re not only helping yourself and giving your body a healthy break, but you’ll also be raising money to fight youth addiction.

Joining in the campaign couldn’t be easier – simply pick your challenge, then hop online to register. You can choose to go solo or join or form a team where you’ll be given your own fundraising page to get you started. Then it’s just up to you to encourage donations and make it through the month!

Seem like an impossible task? Rest assured, it’s possible. Experts believe that a bad habit can be broken in just 21 days. The key is a positive mindset that focuses on the things you will benefit from by ridding yourself of the habit. With better health AND helping youth at risk clear and immediate benefits, we think joining such a big movement like FebFast will give you twice the motivation.

If things do get difficult or you’re feeling tempted, FebFast has your back, with apps, e-magazines, blogs, email, SMS and expert help from their ambassadors, as well as a number of FebFast Friendly Venues (find your local here). It’s also a great activity to get your friends and family involved in with you for extra encouragement and support.

Alternatively why not sign up to the office challenge and get your employees or colleagues involved? Over 100 corporate teams have participated in the campaign, with many finding there were more benefits than just for personal health. 86 per cent of participants said they saved money, while 64 per cent felt more productive at work after FebFast. Posters and graphics are all available online and there’s even a pre-made “Why FebFast?” presentation to download if your boss needs convincing.

Make FebFast the month of no excuses and help others at the same time. And if you make it through the 28 days, why not consider making it a permanent change? We believe in you!
