What to Do, What to Do? School Holiday Adventures with C&G.

Local Community

School holidays hit families this weekend, and the city is packed with an amazing spree of events and activities for kids to enjoy. Today, C&G handpicks a few favourites for the youngsters to get involved in this April.

In a fundamentally cool partnership between Gasworks Arts Park and production company Animachin, children from grades 4-6 can take part in a three-day stop-motion animation workshop. Kids will get the chance to form groups and develop a story idea, mould characters from clay, create sets and props, provide voice-acting and then bring it all to life through the magic of stop-motion animation. The workshop ($230pp) will take place at Princes Hill Community Centre from 7th-9th April 2014. Call 0400 058 604 or email here for bookings.

Gasworks Arts Park, based in Albert Park, will host an impressive number of kids’ holiday activities this April. Kids can learn to Dance Like Michael Jackson ($25pp, 8th April) in a class that teaches the step-by-step moves to zombie-tastic Thriller, find their inner David Copperfield with Australian School of Magic’s Magic Class or Pre-School of Magic ($25pp, 11th April), and delight in the magical adventures of beloved Australian children’s literature character Tashi brought to life in theatrical performance ($18pp, 16th April). For the little Masterchefs in your house, there are still a few highly-coveted spots left in just two of Relish Mama’s popular cooking classes in Cheltenham. Kids Cook the Family Dinner (ages 6-11) and Teens & Tweens Cook the Family Dinner (ages 11+) are hands-on cooking classes that teach young people how to create ‘easy and nutritious meals the whole family will love’. Classes take place on 9th April at $65pp.

These school holidays are an excellent opportunity to make the trip down to Frankston to catch the final weeks of Storyland, an amazing sand sculpture exhibition on the Frankston waterfront. 3,500 tonnes of sand have been transformed into scenes from Harry Potter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Where the Wild Things Are and more. There will also be sand-sculpting workshops and demonstrations, roving entertainment and face-painting. Click here for admission pricing.
