C&G’s Guide to Home Cinema Rooms

Tips & Advice

A TV room isn’t just for binging the latest Netflix show – it’s a room where friends and family gather to watch weekend sports, live music concerts and play video games. From buying a HD projector to perfecting your full-surround sound system, C&G have curated the ultimate list of movie essentials to transform your living room into a home cinema. So, grab some snacks, popcorn and get ready to enjoy the latest flicks in the comfort of your own cinema.

 1.    Projector

Maximise your viewing experience with a home projector. With most available in HD and a range of price points, remember to measure the distance between your chosen wall and lounge or seating area. Depending on the size of the picture display, projectors require different lens – handy to know before buying the wrong projector! Also, projector bulbs can get very heated and have inside fans to cool the machine down. Ask retailers for decibel ratings to make sure the projector isn’t too noisy – you want to be able to hear the movie!

2.    Lighting

A room with little or no windows is perfect for watching films – rooms with natural lightening will require heavy curtains or blinds to mask the sunlight. For a more soothing cinema viewing, light dimmers are great to adjust lightening – especially if you’re watching a scary flick!

3.    Seating

For ultimate cinema luxury, comfy seating is everything! Think recliners, foot poufs, ottomans, single lounge seats or extra-large futons. For alternative ideas try bean bags, sofa beds or L-shaped lounges for a more creative viewing space.

4.    Sound

Sound isolation really makes for an epic audio experience. For full-surround sound, wireless speakers are the easiest and best addition to your home theatre setup. Invest in a multipurpose speaker that you can also use to listen or hook up to Spotify, Netflix, radio stations and your computer.

5.    Décor

By decorating your home cinema with film merchandise, movie buffs can proudly display their collection of film memorabilia. Think vintage-inspired posters, famous character figurines and cushions or blankets from your favourite film franchises.
