Listen up! Melbourne Music Week will be returning 14-23 November to celebrate our city’s exciting music scene, and will feature over 300 acts spanning 70 events and 65 venues! 2019 also marks MMW’s 10th year anniversary of driving creativity and fostering new talent within the competitive music industry. Immerse yourself in new sounds as these creatives transform Melbourne’s most iconic and non-traditional spaces into unforgettable musical experiences. This latest C&G blog highlights some of our most anticipated events and performances.

Swell 5.0 Frequency 10th Anniversary Show

Kick off your Melbourne Music Week with this special anniversary show from Artistic Director Janenne Willis and a collaborative line-up of the most genre-diverse local artists. Known collectively as Swell 5.0 Frequency, they will be delivering a transcending experiential musical escape that explores the human conditions of curiosity, joy and staying grounded. This is a free city-wide celebration on the evening of 14 November so don’t miss out!

Process Lab: Mobile Music Making

Musical innovators will enjoy this workshop on 15 November led by Ableton Live trainer Matt Ridgway. Learn how to integrate your music-making devices into productions and take advantage of the exciting affordances of mobile music and digital audio workflow. There will also be an open mobile music jam at the end of the session! Tickets can be found here and this wonderful opportunity is open to all ages.

Federation Bells

The Federation Bells in Birrarung Marr will be the centrepiece of a free Yarra outdoor dance party. Electronic producer Elisabeth Dixon will be premiering her exclusively commissioned techno sound set. This exciting party will be held on 15 November from 8 until 11pm!

Sustainability and Music

A free talk on the issues that matter, this informative event will be running on 19 November at 6:15 at MPavilion. Join music journalist Sose Fuamoli and a panel of industry experts to discuss the carbon-heavy impact of the music industry – touring air miles and single-use plastics that populate concert stadiums. You’ll gain insight into the challenges faced and how the industry can collectively reduce impact.
