4 Ace Ways To Enjoy The Australian Open

Local Community

With the Australian Open underway, tennis fever is taking over the city of Melbourne. Didn’t manage to get tickets? No problem. Today on the blog, Chisholm and Gamon shares four other ace ways to enjoy the Aussie Open.

If you’re keen to watch the action with atmosphere but can’t face the idea of crowded public transport, then get yourself down to Brighton’s Half Moon. The recently renovated pub is a much-loved local favourite and will be screening the matches on all their big screens. Settle into the air-conditioned bar or nab a spot in the huge outside courtyard to enjoy the tennis in style, with a great range of wine, cocktails, beer and cider and delicious gourmet snacks on offer.

With stunning views of the Yarra on one side and the heights of the city on the other, the Foxtel Sports Hub along the Riverside at Crown isn’t too shabby a place to get courtside this summer. You can catch all the action from the Open on the big screens but don’t forget to keep an eye out for live appearances from tennis favourites - Li Na and Maria Sharapova have already popped by! Feeling thirsty or peckish? Pop-up venues including the Pimms Bar, Heineken Bar, Merrywell Food Truck, Gradi and Movenpick Ice-cream will be serving up food worthy of any tennis champion.

Foxtel Sports Hub until Sunday 1st February. From midday till late with free entry.

Federation Square is the perfect place for families to soak up the excitement of the competition thanks to a host of daily activities. Tennis Hot Shots gives little ones the chance to learn to play while the ANZ photo booth and the WILSON marquee offer plenty of opportunities to have fun. Of course there will also be all-day coverage of the matches on the big screen and a chance to get your hands on official Aussie Open merchandise.

Finally, what better way to truly get into the Aussie open spirit than picking up a racquet yourself?  Catering to everyone from beginners to pros of all ages, with over 150 tennis clubs in the Bayside area, there is bound to be one near you! Our suggestions include the Mount Martha Tennis Club, Port Melbourne Tennis Club, Elwood Park Tennis Club and the Black Rock Bowling and Tennis Club.
