A Very Healthy 2015 with C&G

Local Community

All of a sudden, the overindulgence of the holidays is just about over, and we’re all starting to think about putting New Years resolutions into practice. It’s not difficult or uncommon to connect these two thoughts and decide that this year will be the one to really kick your health and wellness into gear. Great idea, we say! Today, Chisholm and Gamon are here to be your own personal cheer squad and to set you on the right track.

There are lots of sport and recreation opportunities within the City of Port Phillip – there’s bound to be something that suits your energy levels and interests! A good place to start might be the City’s Leisure and Lifestyle programme – a huge range of activities, including pilates, paddle boarding, beach volleyball and group fitness are available, and all are entirely free! So there’s nothing to stop you from joining in the fun.

If you know you need a little more tough love and motivation, a personal trainer might be for you. Personal trainers are great to help you make sure that you are learning to exercise correctly, so that you don’t ultimately do more harm than good with silly mistakes! Check out the Fit Shop or Step Into Life to get started.

Maybe you’re the type who craves motivation in the form of an event – like a fun run! Peninsula-types are spoiled for fun run choices in January alone, with the Portsea Twilight event, the Two Bays Trail Run, and the Australia Day Fun Run. St Kilda-siders have to wait until February to join in on the Cupid’s Undie Run, raising money for neurofibromatosis. If the idea of participating in a run (or walk) seems impossible to you… start training now, and aim to enter this time next year!  Lace up your jogging shoes and make your way along the beachfront – it doesn’t matter if you do it fast or slow, so long as you’re doing it.

If you’ve not been properly active for a little while, you might be anxious about the way your body will react to your newfound active lifestyle. Swimming is one of the gentlest ways to get your body moving. A visit to the St Kilda Sea Baths isn’t a bad way to get moving, especially as the water is said to be just as beneficial for your overall wellbeing!
