C&G CELEBRATE NAIDOC Week

From the 5th to the 12th of July, Australia will pay tribute to the traditional owners of this land during
NAIDOC week. There are lots of different events available this year from music and food to dance and art exhibitions. C&G has selected some special events happening in Melbourne and the Bayside area. So come along and lose yourself in the celebration of indigenous culture.


Royal Botanic Gardens Tour

The Royal Botanic Garden is surely one of the jewels of Melbourne’s CBD. But on Friday the 10th of July, you can experience its surrounds from a whole new perspective. The Garden Explorer tour allows you to take in the 38 hectare property from the comfort of your own electrified ‘people mover’. In honour of NAIDOC week, there will also be a walking tour led by an indigenous guide, where you can learn about native Australian flora and fauna.

Bayside Bush Sculptures

Baluk Arts gallery in Frankston is hosting a special indigenous art exhibition on Monday the 13th of July till Sunday the 2nd of August. ‘Mungan’ features woven and sculptured animals found in the Bayside and Peninsula area made with both traditional and contemporary materials. This free event showcases works created during a workshop with Gunditjmara artist Bronwyn Razem.

NAIDOC Week at Bunjilaka Aboriginal Centre

The Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Melbourne Museum is having a special week filled with activities and exhibitions to honour the culture and traditions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. From the 5th to the 12th of July you can participate in an indigenous dance workshop, listen to storytelling, discover traditional indigenous foods and much more. 

Art Exhibition with Gallery Kaiela

As part of NAIDOC week, international law firm DLA Piper LLP will be exhibiting a selection of artworks from the Kaiela Gallery in Shepparton on Friday the 10th of July in the CBD. Wonderful traditional pieces will be on display, including paintings and weavings by traditional Koorie artists Troy Firebrace, Eva Ponting, Ross Morgan, Eric Brown and Brett Wilson. From 2.30-4.30pm the public will be able to hear talks from the gallery manager and the artists about their work.
