C&G Commemorate Anzac Day

Local Community

ANZAC Day is a time of remembrance, reflection, and respect for the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War. ANZAC Day 2015 is quickly approaching, and this year marks the 100th anniversary of the landing of troops at Gallipoli. Commemorations are being held throughout Victoria, and Bayside residents have the opportunity to take part in a number of local services.
C&G have compiled a short list of ANZAC Day services around the Bayside area as well as larger events in the city to take part in.
Lest we forget.

The Elwood Community ANZAC Day Commemorative Service

The people of Elwood are coming together for ANZAC Day with a service in front of the Elwood Sailing Club. The service will be held from 8:45am – 10:45am. For more information on the event, click here.

Brighton ANZAC Day Dawn Service

The Bayside City Council and Hampton RSL are hosting a dawn service for ANZAC Day this year at Green Point on Brighton Beach. The service will be held from 5:30am until approximately 8am. For more information on the event, click here.

Commemorative Events: Mornington Peninsula

Commemorative services, marches and events are being held across the Mornington Peninsula – from Mount Eliza to Sorrento – this coming ANZAC Day. To find out about the full program of events offered, click here.

Great Songs of the War Years: Frankston

For something a bit different to a traditional commemoration, the Frankston Arts Centre will showcase songs from both World Wars on Friday 24th April as part of a tribute to the centenary of ANZAC Day. For more information on the event, click here.

Camp Gallipoli: Melbourne Showgrounds

Camp Gallipoli offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to sleep out under the stars like the original ANZACs did 100 years ago, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli. It will be a special night of ‘remembrance, entertainment, mateship and the birth of that ANZAC spirit’. Individuals, families, schools and community groups are all invited to take part. Spaces will be set aside for camping using swags, just like the original Diggers did. For more information on the event, click here.

Commemorating the Centenary of Gallipoli: Shrine of Remembrance

An array of events are being hosted at the Shrine of Remembrance for ANZAC Day this year. There will be a dawn service at 6am (visitors are recommended to assemble on the Shrine Forecourt between 4am and 5am). Following that, an official wreath laying service will take place at 8:15am, and then the ANZAC Day March will follow at 9am. The March will involve thousands of veterans, their descendants and current serving personnel marching down St Kilda Road from Flinders/Swanston Streets to the Shrine. Once the March has concluded (at approximately 1:30pm) a service will be held on the Shrine Forecourt. For more information on the event, and other ANZAC Day events taking place at the Shrine, click here.
