C&G on the highlights of St Kilda Festival 2016

Local Community

St Kilda Festival was first held in 1980, and the free street festival was an instant win. Since then, it’s become a Melbourne summer tradition, showcasing local talent and celebrating everything that the city has to offer. It’s also Australia’s largest free music festival! Get across these highlights from C&G before you tram it down to the foreshore this Valentine’s Day, for the extravaganza that is Festival Sunday.

Festival Sunday

People of all ages will be entertained by the delights on offer, including performance art, workshops, tours, wrestling, dancing, buskers, food trucks and more. The heroes of the festival are, of course, some of the hottest Australian musicians, who will be performing across ten stages. On the main stage, catch the Beards, Briggs, the Bombay Royale, Tuka, the Grates and others. View the full line up here.

Live N Local Week

Live N Local Week wraps up on February 13th, and celebrates talent in the City of Port Phillip community. Laika, Robarta, the George Hotel and the basement at Alliance de Francaise Melbourne are just a few of the diverse venues supporting local talent with live gigs in St Kilda. Kidzone

The kids’ stage at Catani Gardens has a fab line up from 10am to 5pm on Festival Sunday! Check out performers like the Chipolatas, Pevan & Sarah and Dazzling Dan the Magic Man, or hang out with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants. There’s even Zumba for kids! Details here

Preparing for the festival

Check the weather before you leave, and take plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat regardless of the forecast. If you’re of drinking age and you plan on taking advantage of the licenced areas, make sure you have photo identification. Also, you may wish to bring cash as the ATMs often attract long queues. Plan your day using the app, which can be found here. It’s got the full line-up, map, and all the event information you’ll need. Lastly, have fun – we know you will!
