C&G’s Guide to the AFL Grand Final

Local Community

It’s time to celebrate the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final. Fans will see Richmond face the Geelong Cats on Saturday the 24th of October at 7.30pm! Grand Final weekend will be a little different this year, with the game being hosted at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in Queensland, more commonly known as GABBA. Already setting up the television for the big game? This C&G blog unpacks everything you can look forward to this weekend.

The dedicated Grand Final Eve public holiday will take place on Friday the 23rd of October. For Victorians, it has been rebranded as ‘Thank You Day,’ to recognise the frontline healthcare workers and Victorians who have made great sacrifices to protect their community against the spread of COVID-19. Whether it’s been in a professional or personal capacity, we have faced many challenges this year.

Where to watch

Fortunately, the Grand Final is free to access through the AFL Live Official App and on Channel Seven or 7Plus. Coverage will begin at 4:30pm, with pre-game entertainment at 6:30pm and a 7:30pm kick-off. If you prefer to stream it at a later time, you can find it on streaming service Kayo! Check out this page for a breakdown of the day’s events.

Entertainment

It’s not the Grand Final without an iconic Australian musical line up! This year we can expect performances from DMA’s, Cub Sport, Sheppard, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale, and Electric Fields featuring Thelma Plum and Busby Marou. The Queensland Symphony Orchestra will also perform live at the GABBA.

What to eat?

The Grand Final Barbecue is a tradition, but this year it’ll be scaled down. Don’t be disheartened, you can still light up the event with these banging barbecue ideas
