C&G’s Guide to the Victorian Seniors Festival

Local Community

Throughout October, Melbourne will be a haven for seniors. With events in every suburb, there’s something for seniors of all ages to get involved in, be it sports, cinema or simply a good old fashioned chat with a cuppa. Here’s C&G’s guide to some of the best events around Bayside.

Sports

For seniors looking to get more active, or looking for likeminded people to exercise with, the sports and wellness events throughout the festival are the perfect place to start. There’s everything from pilates and cycling to tai chi and table tennis, and it’s the perfect place to meet new people. In the mood for a bit of a dance? The gentle exercises at Movement to Music build strength while conditioning your body.

Getting Techy

Learn some tricks to dazzle the grandchildren at the iPad Trial. This event is free and includes morning tea, and involves a 45-minute intro to iPads. You’ll learn all the tricks you need and feel confident in emailing and taking photos in no time!

Get in the Groove

Up for more of a boogie? Dance The Afternoon Away welcomes you to try Vogue, Latin and Modern dance along to a fantastic live band. Have some fun and meet some new faces. If you’re up for more of a challenge, grab a kilt and head along to Scottish Country Dancing

Shred Your Documents

In between the fun of dance and the excitement of sports, you’re welcome to bring along any important documents you want to dispose of safely to the Brighton Community Shred Day. Have a clear out and be safe in the knowledge that your personal information is properly disposed of.

Film

Presented by Gnome Films, the world premiere of true story Abandoned to Die will be held at the festival for one day only. If you prefer the classics, Tuesday Classic Cinema is the event for you. Join fellow film lovers in Elsternwick for the classics of the big screen, and reminisce the best of cinema history. If you’re more of a book worm, Saturday Book Club is the place to meet fellow book lovers and discuss your favourite reads.

Whether for yourself, or for a parent or grandparent, the Senior’s Festival is a wonderful celebration of Melbourne’s longest standing residents, and the perfect opportunity for seniors to enjoy fun activities together.
