Crafty Cooler Months

Local Community

Isn’t it funny how as the weather cools, Melbourne’s collective fascination with all things crafting heats up? As we become more environmentally aware, the link between crafting and sustainability becomes increasingly apparent (echoing the wartime value of ‘making do’ by re-stitching, mending and making). Crafting is often associated with connectivity - as events are often held by community groups – and simply because crafting brings people together. In today’s blog,
C&G invite you to get crafty, make new friends, and learn new skills this winter with five fun ways to get those creative juices flowing!

Camp Craft

For those with children who love craft activities, Camp Craft at Craft Clubhouse is a school holiday program that combines craft with recycling. Children are shown how to make ‘something out of nothing’ by using recycled items and craft materials to make beautiful projects. There are two sessions, both held in the studio above Little Sparrow in Balaclava. To find out more, click here.

Thread Den

Thread Den in Collingwood offers sewing classes for people of all levels. And classes aren’t limited to sewing skills: students can learn everything from screen printing to vintage hair and beauty tips. If classes aren’t for you and you’re just looking for a space to sew and make new friends, you can make use of the Thread Den sewing lounge for $10 an hour. To find out more, click here.
