Deck The Halls: Christmas Trees and Carols with C&G

Local Community

It’s here. There’s no way to deny it any longer. There is less than a month until Christmas, and we can’t help but feel a little but more merry than usual here in the Chisholm and Gamon office. Christmas is a time to really get into the community spirit, and we’ve found a couple of ways to help you do just that.

There’s nothing like a good Christmas carol sing-along to get you in the holiday spirit. Even the most Grinch-like of souls finds it hard to resist humming along. The Friends of Black Rock House are hosting your first carolling night of the season, this Tuesday, December second. It’s a free event, featuring singers Hayley Davis, Daniel Mirabella and Howie Mineham, not to mention a number of performances from local primary schools. Bring your friends, your family, something to sit on, and, of course, your singing voice!

St Columba's Primary School in Elwood have 6ft Christmas trees for sale delivered for $65 or pickup $60 - come down today and enjoy coffe, brekkie, cakes and snags!

Balaclava’s Holy Trinity Anglican church is making the traditional trimming of the Christmas tree an affair for the whole community. Visit the Chapel Street church on December 3 with your family, friends or community groups and join in on the annual Christmas Tree Festival!  BYO tree and trimmings.

The trees remain on display until Sunday December 7. Go and have a wander about and look at all the different decorations in exchange for a gold coin donation.  If you haven’t yet had your fix of carols, join in on the Carols Among the Christmas Trees, at 4pm on the Sunday afternoon.

Does the holiday season motivate you to do good in your community? Us too! Not that you wouldn’t be doing good deeds anyway, but now there is an extra incentive to lend a helping hand in your community – the Sacred Heard Mission Do-Nation Christmas appeal!

Australia is a nation of do-ers, and the Sacred Heart Mission wants to celebrate that fact. When you’ve done good deeds, ‘like’ the Sacred Heart Mission on Facebook, and share a story, picture or video that shows the help you’ve offered in your community. Make sure to add the caption “Doing my part for the DO-nation.” The competition runs until December 8, with a host of lovely prizes to be won. The best part? If helping out in your community is its own reward, then everyone is a winner!
