Fit for Summer with C&G
Keeping fit can be a difficult task in Winter – running tracks are washed out, darkness sets in early and home is just so cozy! Yet as the weather warms up, fitness becomes far from a chore. As a beachside destination, Melbourne’s southern suburbs naturally have a wealth of outdoor sports to get involved in - from beach volleyball to rollerblading! Here are C&G’s favorite ways to get fit for Summer, Bayside.
Weekday evenings in the warmer months, the volleyball nets go up on the St Kilda foreshore. Complete with great tunes and a gorgeous sunset, the weekly beach volleyball tournament begins! Gather your colleagues, your friends and your family or head down solo – you’re sure to get a super workout in the sand. Your calves with thank you!
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays – 6PM at Republica St Kilda Sea Baths.
Is improving your strength and balance a priority this Summer? Boardsports might be the perfect workout for you. SHQ in Sandringham offer a range of lessons for all boardsports. If you want to kite board, stand up paddleboard or windsurf - the team at SHQ have you covered! Whether you’re a newbie or more experienced on the water, get ‘on board’ for a workout of a completely different kind.
Every Tuesday night between September and June, join a group of rocking roller skaters in Middle Brighton as you either skate north along the bay to St Kilda, or south along the bay to Black Rock. This is a great form of exercise for your entire body and a fun way to see the Bay at twilight! Haven’t bladed in a while? This is a distance skate (around 10kms) – so perhaps put in some practice on the St Kilda Boardwalk first. And if you’re looking for some new roller kicks, head to Bayside Blades in Highett – their team will hook you up!
Tuesdays, 7PM at Middle Brighton Baths
The Bayside’s suburbs are brimming with beautiful beaches for weekend paddling – but lap swimming can be easier when you’re not fighting the tide! In a recent Chisholm and Gamon blog we highlighted Bayside’s Best Outdoor Pools for Summer – our favourites include Prahran Aquatic Centre, Brighton Baths Health Club, Harold Holt Swim Centre and of course, The St Kilda Sea Baths!
