From the 22nd of November until the 23rd of March, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will present the long awaited Melbourne Now exhibition. Said to be the largest and most ambitious in its history, the NGV will showcase over 300 artists, architects, designers and creative practitioners. Melbourne Now aims to engage artist with audience through revolutionary projects, commissions for kids and families and much, much more. Some highlights to look out for include: a major sound and light installation of sensory intensity by Marco Fusinato, and a commission by artist and designer Julia deVille involving a room filled with taxidermied animals in a Victorian-era setting.

What about the kids? Help get their creative juices flowing by enrolling them in the Art Wise class for kids. Sessions are guided by experienced art educators and enable children to uncover treasures of the NGV through exploring selected works. They will take part in informal group discussions and produce 2-D and 3-D art using various forms of media. Classes are for children aged 11-15 years and are fully supervised.

Come and view the inspiring (and/or controversial) works of Australian contemporary art photographer, Bill Henson at Tolarno Galleries. Henson is a prophetic explorer of nature and civilisation, youth and childhood. He is recognised internationally for both his photographs, and his at times ‘risqué’ artistic choices. Visit Tolarno and judge for yourself.

Enjoy a perfect picnic in Heide Museum of Modern Art’s picturesque Sculpture Park. Be dazzled by over thirty sculptures, including Inge King’s Rings of Saturn (pictured above) and John Meade’s Progeney. Heide has also commissioned two artists gardens - the latest and newest addition to the sculpture park is Fiona Hall’s native rockery garden, displaying an espalier of three silver princess trees across the Heide III building façade. Café Vue Heide is located in the sculpture plaza opposite the main entrance of the museum and offers a fresh and seasonal menu. A tasty picnic hamper is available with 24 hours notice for guests wanting to indulge whilst journeying through the Heide gardens.
