Local Community

Bored of the same old running route? C&G have checked out some of the most fun ways to get fit in and around Bayside, and guess what, it’s not just boring old cardio. Here’s our pick of the best workout spots and how to get in!

Being fit is more fashionable than ever, but with our busy lives, who can be bothered with the same old workout every night after work? That’s why C&G have had a peek around the Bayside area for some fun, alternative ways to work out – and maybe even meet some fun, likeminded people while doing so!

1. Barre

The trend of Barre fitness is certainly here to stay, and it’s the beautiful fusion of yoga, pilates and ballet that makes it a sculpting, strengthening workout that hugely improves your posture and flexibility. Energise and Recharge in Elwood, Barre Body in Windsor and Re-Creation in Brighton East offer Barre and BarreFit classes.

2. Dance

Dance Dynamics in Malvern is a fun, energetic range of dance classes designed to get your heart rate pumping and your sweat glands bopping. You’ll learn routines from hip hop to latin, and it’s a great workout to do alone or with friends.

3. Spin Star

Prahran’s Spin Star warehouse is the home of all things spinning and rowing. Their newest class, row and ride, is a 50 minute class focused on rowing intervals and high intensity cycling, interspersed with core and chest workouts on the mat. It’s a great new environment from your usual gym environment, and you’ll definitely feel the burn afterwards!

4. Reformer Pilates

Energise Recharge in Elwood and Kaya in South Yarra offers reformer Pilates, which involves the use of a core strengthening machine to support and get the most out of your moves and flow. It’s a great sculpting workout and works every muscle in your body – and it’s a welcome change from squats and lunges in front of the mirror! Reformer pilates is also available at Glen Waverley’s KX Pilates.

5. Boxing

Fancy some crazy endorphin-creating Cardio boxing by the beach? Blue Sky Health and Fitness offers this and a range of child and new mum friendly classes such as Metafit from Port Melbourne down to Sandringham. Also available at South Yarra’s Kaya club, 30 minutes of high intensity, stress releasing boxing. Vent out a busy week or find your inner strength, and walk out feeling totally empowered. Similar classes are on offer at Fight Fit South Melbourne.
