No Pool, No Problem | Make A Splash This Summer

Local Community

With February set to be a warm one, there’s no better time to stay cool and have some fun in the water. No pool? No problem. You don’t need to have one in your backyard to get wet and wild! Instead, why not check out some of the great public pools and other water activities Melbourne has to offer? Today Chisholm and Gamon share some of their favourite places to make a splash this summer.

A local favourite with a rich history, the Middle Brighton Baths is the perfect pool to visit if you’re after a holiday from home. Built in 1881 (and rebuilt a few times since then due to storm damage), the baths are now modern and multi-functional, offering a gym, decked area and the popular The Baths restaurant, café and bar – the perfect place to quench your hunger and thirst after a serious swim. The pool is in the bay itself, with buoys clearly marking the lanes of where is safe to swim. The baths are also a great spot to take in the sunset – either from the pool or the jetty.

The St Kilda Sea Baths also has a colourful history. Originally built at a time when swimming in the open sea was considered dangerous and unacceptable, the baths now contain Australia’s only indoor heated sea-water pool, a hydrotherapy spa and a steam room, as well as a range of restaurants and cafes. A great place for leisurely or fast-paced swimming, lessons, classes or just relaxing in the lounge area and admiring the bayside views, the St Kilda Sea Baths has something for everyone.

If a day of adventure is what you’re after (and Wet and Wild is a little too far away!) then Adventure Park in Geelong is worth a visit – and just an hour out of Melbourne. Offering a range of rides for all ages, why not try your luck at the Gold Rush Rapids, go crazy at the Wild West Canyon or tackle the Aqua Racer head on? There’s also the Tiny Tots Splashzone for little ones to explore and the Lazy River for those who like their rides more tranquil.

Finally, one for little kids, big kids and kids at heart, Slide Melbourne is set to take over the city for one day only on Sunday 15th February. The 400m long and three-lane wide slide on Lansdowne Street is set to be the longest city street slide anywhere in the world. We’re predicting this will be a popular one, so book your two-hour slot ASAP to avoid missing out!
