Oh, What A Night! : White Night Melbourne 2014

Making its return after a hugely successful debut last year, White Night Melbourne will again be lighting up the city this February 22nd. Stretching across the CBD from Melbourne Museum to the National Gallery of Victoria, White Night will transform the city streets into a playground of music, theatre, art, light installations, film screenings and cultural exhibitions right through from dusk to dawn. C&G takes a look at some of the best events taking place this White Night Melbourne.

The Vortex

Start time: 7pm (though best experienced after sunset)

Location: Southbank Pedestrian Footbridge

If you want to experience a totally immersive light installation, head straight to The Vortex, where White Night will see the Southbank Pedestrian Footbridge completely transformed into a shimmering tunnel of light. Rohan Thornton , of the technical team behind The Vortex, says “People will have the sensation of being transported across space and time.”

Tim Winton’s The Turning

Start time: 7pm

Location: Various

Looking for a creative way to structure your White Night adventures? Tim Winton’s acclaimed short story collection The Turning will be projected upon various locations across Melbourne. Each chapter, brought to life as interpreted by eighteen different Australian directors, will be screened in eighteen separate locations across the city – each specifically designed to add a whole new dimension to the story.

I Could Have Danced All Night

Start time: 7pm

Location: Federation Square

A smash success of 2013, I Could Have Danced All Night is back to transform Federation Square into a giant dance floor. From 7pm to 7am the stage will come alive with a different style of dance every hour – and you’re invited to come and learn the moves. From Salsa to Voguing, Bollywood and even Beyoncé’s Single Ladies dance – you’ll be one-two stepping away from this one a total pro.
