This Weekend Bayside

Local Community

Wondering how to spend the upcoming Spring weekend? Maybe you’d like to plan a day out with the whole family – or perhaps Mum and Dad would like to sneak away before the school holidays set in! Either way, C&G have put together some ideas to inspire your weekend plans.

Market Mornings

The best way to wake up Bayside is with a stroll to market! On this particular Spring weekend, locals and visitors alike are spoiled for choice. Gasworks Arts Park in Albert Park will play host to its monthly Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning. There you will find everything from organic fruit and veggies to fresh flowers and homemade sweet treats. The Gasworks Resident Artist Studios are also open every Saturday morning so don’t forget to wander through.

But if sunny Sunday sounds more like market day to you, both the St Kilda Esplanade Market and the Sustainable September Festival at South Melbourne Market await your explorations.

Feature Films

As Saturday is predicted to be a real chiller, you might enjoy cosying up and participating in the final day of the AICE Israeli Film Festival 2017. This year’s film festival featured unique stories of war and unrest, but also plenty of drama, comedy and a special program highlighting the Women of Israel. Saturday’s schedule kicks off at 1:00pm with drama The Secrets, before commencing with a short film anthology Heroine at 9:00pm. Enjoy this celebration of Israeli film and culture at Alex Theatre, Fitzroy Street in St Kilda.

A Coastal Drive

There’s nothing like jumping in the car with a Sunday picnic in mind. Whilst you might choose Open Garden Victoria’s featured garden in Ballnaring as your ultimate destination – feel free to take your time and stop in at any of these gourmet food and wine spots along the way.

Get Arty

If you haven’t enjoyed NGV’s Friday Nights yet – The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture exhibition is one to participate in! Be dazzled by Dior as DJs, dancing and dining take over the NGV International - it’s the perfect start to your weekend. If Friday night doesn’t satiate your desire for culture, visit the NGV’s Ian Potter Centre on Sunday. Bayside history buffs will be able to study landmark Australian artworks in depth at Illuminating Australian Art - a series of workshops for adults.

These are just a few ideas for a gorgeous Spring weekend spent Bayside – after you’ve finished attending Chisholm and Gamon’s open for inspections, of course!
