C&G’s Guide to Barefoot Cinema

Tips & Advice

This summer the Rippon Lea Estate Mansion and Gardens will be hosting the Barefoot Cinema from the 29th of January until the 16th of February. Kick back to a gorgeous sunset with a bean bag and cheese platter, then enjoy a Hollywood blockbuster against the majestic garden backdrop. This is perfect for Baysiders brainstorming ideas for a family night out, friendly catch-up, or romantic date night! C&G’s latest blog contains all the tips on making it a memorable evening. What should I bring?

If you’re new to the outdoor cinema experience, it can be confusing when you’re told to bring more than just your amazing self.

Barefoot Cinema will be offering General Admission Tickets and Barefoot VIP Lounge. There won’t be any specific seat allocations for general ticket holders, so make sure you arrive early to snap up the perfect spot. You can bring your own bean bag, picnic rug or low back chair. If it’s a hassle, you can also choose to hire a bean bag from the venue – do it early, however, as they tend to sell out quickly! You can opt to purchase a VIP ticket which includes your choice of bean bag or reclining chair in the premium seating area! You’ll also receive free popcorn and drink, as well as a blanket and waited service during the movie. How fancy!

It may be summer, but do bring a coat or jacket for the journey home. Trust us, when the movie finishes you’ll realise the cool change has kicked in!

Food and drinks?

You can make this experience your own, by bringing your own food and drinks! We’re talking cheese platters, chips and salsa, hummus and crackers, sandwiches… the possibilities are endless!

If you’re a busy bee with no time for food preparation, that’s okay as well! The Barefoot Bar will keep you refreshed with their selection of cold drinks, Matso’s craft beer and cider, Babo wine, and Aperol Spritz. The Candy Bar will have the essentials – popcorn, lollies, choc tops and heaps of movie treats. And lastly, the food trucks will keep those hunger cravings at bay! Barefoot Cinema have a number of rotating food trucks, and recommend checking their social media to find out who will be at your screening. The full menu can be found here.

And the movies?

Alas, the reason we’re all here… the movies! Only one film will be showing each night so make sure you check the program to avoid missing out. January 29th will kick things off with Elton John’s musical biopic Rocketman, followed by favourites such as Jojo Rabbit and Frozen 2. If your furry four-legged friend also enjoys the movies, bring them along to the special Bring Your Dog Night on the 9th of February! You will both enjoy a musical experience with a screening of Grease!
