Summer is here, and so are the school holidays! When that final school bell rings, the little ones will be rushing outside to enjoy the wonderful activities on offer. Are you a busy parent who’s not sure where to start? Don’t stress – C&G’s latest blog unpacks the holiday programs running throughout December and January. Some involve an exciting trip to the big city, while others are held conveniently in the Bayside area. Happy holidays!

Bayside Summer School Holiday Program

A wonderful local option that will keep the kids entertained! Each year a team of fully qualified Youth Services staff run a two-week summer holiday program for children aged 10 to 17. 2020’s program includes a stellar line-up of activities including movie outings, Bounce, paddle boarding on St Kilda beach, and a virtual reality experience! This will be a great opportunity for kids to explore outside their comfort zone, while making new friends for the year ahead. Bookings have just opened and will remain so until 5pm on Monday the 16th of December. Make sure you also complete the 2020 annual family registration before attending any events as well!

Arts Centre Melbourne

Arts Centre Melbourne have released their summer program and it is full of exciting and diverse activities for the whole family to get involved in. Fans of Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton’s books will love the adapted live play version of the 91-Storey Treehouse, which will be performed from the 4th to 19th of January. Or perhaps you’d be interested in the Magic Workshop, run by Melbourne magician Lee Cohen? Participants will receive goodie bags to show off their new skills to family and friends!

National Gallery of Victoria

The NGV has no shortage of cultural and educational activities to inspire the little ones this summer. They’ll love the child-friendly KAWS Playtime exhibition which is full of interactive multimedia installations featuring KAWS’ character BFF. It’s also free and available until the 13th of April! Otherwise keep an eye out for the different Weekend Workshops for budding artists aged 10 to 14. These sessions are held in a studio environment and will allow you to work with many different art mediums and techniques. They will require booking in, so make sure you do that to secure your spot!
