C&G’s Guide to the Royal Melbourne Show

Tips & Advice

The much-anticipated Royal Melbourne Show is returning to its humble home at the Melbourne Showgrounds – this time revamped with a brand new layout and program of activities! There are simply too many exciting Royal Melbourne Show attractions to fit into one blog, but we’ve done our best to highlight the ‘must see’ on the C&G agenda. The show is on from September 21 until October 1, so don’t forget to book your tickets!

Animal Pavilions

Don’t mind getting up close and personal with dinosaurs? The roarsome Jurassic Creatures Pavilion features all your favourites including the T-Rex in animatronic form. The whole family can enjoy an interactive exhibition and learn about life on earth 165 million years ago.

If you prefer something fluffier, Animals Up Close will feature the true stars of the Royal Show. There are baby goats, lambs, ducklings and more to cuddle at the Biostime Animal Nursery, and the Education Hub will feature farmers sharing stories of how they raise these adorable animals.

Lastly - do not forget the show competitions! This year 200 of Australia’s best alpacas will be gracing us with their presence at the Royal Melbourne Show Alpaca Competition held at the Black Hawk Dogs Pavilion! You’ll love seeing these little guys compete in a parade and run through obstacle courses for a coveted blue ribbon. This same venue will also host the all-time favourite All Breeds Championship Show, where thousands of talented dogs will compete for Best in Show. There are many competitions happening each day so make sure you check the daily program to avoid missing out on your favourite breed!

Live Music

Head to the Main Stage and listen to live performances from your favourite artists from Channel 9’s The Voice! Fans can hear what the reality TV talents have been up to since The Voice, and may participate in a meet and greet. If you prefer British rock, you may be interested to see internationally acclaimed tribute band the Elton John Experience perform your favourite Elton John songs at the Channel 7 Entertainment Precinct. And for those country music listeners, four-time Golden Guitar winner Amber Lawrence will be performing an exclusive show on September 26 at 2:00pm! Fans will also have the opportunity to meet her after the show.

Food, drinks, and showbags!

It’s not a show without the showbags or food – and with names like Eat Street and Donut Lane being thrown around, there is something to tempt everyone! You can sample international flavours or indulge your sweet tooth cravings at the many food trucks and stalls found in the Showbag Pavilion. Did you know this is the largest showbag offering in the world?

For those with fancier tastebuds, the Winning Tastes Pavilion will be showcasing award-winning Australian produce such as cheese, desserts and wine. Renowned establishments such as That’s Amore Cheese, Glacé Desserts and McPhersons Wine will be making an appearance.

Hopefully these events have got you excited and getting your showbag-holding hands ready! Don’t forget to book your tickets and check out the daily program so you’re not missing out on your favourite activities. Team C&G hope to see you there.
