The Royal Melbourne Show is Coming to Town!
Roll up, roll up – ladies and gentlemen, the Royal Melbourne Show is less than two weeks away! From the 17th to the 27th of September, the whole family can delight in the best entertainment that Melbourne has to offer, all in the convenient setting of the Melbourne Showgrounds. But where to start? Never fear. C&G have compiled all the highlights, and they’re world-class. Don’t forget to use the Show Planner tool on the event website to compile your itinerary once you’ve confirmed your must-sees!
Furry Friends
Everyone will love The Animal Farmyard, a 'quintessential experience of life on a farm.' Hosted by Farmer Darryl, kids can ask questions about the animals, enjoy story time sessions, feed the animals, watch demonstrations and more. It's a tradition not to be missed!
Nearby Farmer Darryl's Animal Farmyard, you'll also find The Farmhouse, where there will be even more rural delights and activities! Here, kids can pat a piglet, learn to milk a cow and dig for vegetables among numerous other hands-on educational activities. The Jayco Animal Nursery offers further magical memories, and is located in the same precinct.
Not had enough of hanging out with furry friends? Head to the Dog Precinct located close by, where you’ll find the ADVANCE® Dog Pavilion. There, you can meet all the canine contestants for Best In Show. You’d be barking to miss it!
Rides Galore
This year, thrill seekers can choose from three ride precincts. The Coca-Cola Thrill Seekers Carnival caters to adults and children aged twelve and up, with rides including the Megadrop, Python Loop rollercoaster and The Beast – a 40m tall pendulum ride.
For the smalls, the Kids Carnival is suitable for young children under the age of six and will have all the classics including the miniature train, teacup ride and jumping castles.
For those in between (ages six and up), the Adventure Carnival is a great family all-rounder, with dodge ‘em cars, ghost trains and much more. Keep an eye on the Royal Melbourne Show website for the full list of rides, coming soon!
Creative Pursuits
A central part of the Royal Melbourne Show, The Art & Craft Pavilion will feature exhibits from over 4000 talented businesses and individuals. Photography, textiles, preserves, baking, pottery, knitting, jewelry - you name it, there'll be a stall (or five) to impress and delight. It really will be quite the extravaganza! There’s even a special Art, Craft & Cookery Showbag, designed by RMIT Textiles Students and filled with all sorts of goodies from the event.
For the Foodies
The Winning Tastes Pavilion will be the central hub of food and drink at the Royal Melbourne Show. And yes, it’s licensed! Enjoy artfully-made cocktails, premium Victorian beer and wine and delicious food from hearty burgers to artisan cheeses. You’ll want to pace yourself though – there’ll be a rotating dessert bar and it sounds amazing! For the chefs among you, there’ll be a range of cooking demonstrations and masterclasses on offer, so sign up to the Winning Tastes Newsletter to be the first to hear about these.
The Australian Food Awards Deli Bag is also a highlight – filled with award-winning (and local) epicurean delights to take home for the family.
